ABUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A former official with the troubled Cuba Independent Schools District has been arrested in the theft of handicap ramps owned by the district.

Beverly Rodriguez is accused of stealing the ramps in 2010 while overseeing construction projects for the district. She previously oversaw the district's transportation operations and worked as a police officer and bureau chief at the state police academy.

State police spokesman Lt. Robert McDonald tells KRQE-TV (http://bit.ly/T6GmyM ) that the 58-year-old was arrested last week and is free on bond. It wasn't clear is she has a lawyer.

She is accused of stealing two metal access ramps worth $10,000. She told police she bought one at auction in 2006 for her mother to use.

Investigators gave her two weeks to produce receipts and then made the arrest.
