SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexicans can now get a free smartphone application as part of a statewide DWI enforcement effort. The new "ENDWI" app now is available on all Android smartphones and will soon be available for iPhone users. Users can create a list of designated drivers who can be contacted quickly, can locate and call a taxi and report someone who's driving erratically. It also can be used as an electronic blood-alcohol content guide.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico sophomore cornerback Devonta Tabannah will rejoin the football team next week after being suspended for a violation of team rules. Lobos coach Bob Davie says Tabannah will be with the team Monday when the Lobos begin preparations for the Sept. 15 game at Texas Tech. Tabannah was suspended Aug. 27 after reportedly being arrested by Albuquerque police on suspicion of drunken driving.
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico regulators today consider a petition filed by a coalition that wants a voluntary program aimed at curbing carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. Western Resource Advocates says the proposal would allow utilities to voluntarily opt to reduce carbon emissions from their generating stations by 3 percent a year starting in 2014. Utilities would be able to recover costs associated with compliance.
MESCALERO, N.M. (AP) - Ski Apache at the Lincoln National Forest will open with three new chairlifts. KTSM-TV reports that the lifts are part of $15 million in improvements by the Mescalero Apache Tribe and should be ready to go by Thanksgiving Day when ski season is anticipated to open.
