ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A group that wants to boost Albuquerque's minimum wage says it will seek a court order to put the proposal before voters in November's election. Bernalillo County Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver tells the Albuquerque Journal she can't put the proposal on the ballot unless the City Council or a court authorizes it. The city council rejected the proposal earlier this week.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say an Albuquerque police officer's wife has been arrested for buying handguns for a homicide suspect who used one of the weapons to shoot at police. The Albuquerque Journal reports that 30-year-old Elizabeth Taylor was arrested last month for allegedly purchasing at least four handguns for 32-year-old Christopher Blattner.
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The popular Santa Fe Children's Museum may be forced to close by the end of the year because of a budget crunch. The Santa Fe New Mexican reports the museum needs to raise $200,000 by the end of the year. Marketing director Julie DeFeo says private unrestricted donations are down 60 percent this year.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque's two animal shelters are expected to be jammed with people this weekend as the city waives adoption fees for adult dogs. The city Animal Welfare Department's Eastside and Westside shelters are posting workers in parking lots to direct traffic. KOB-TV reports the animals will have all their shots, be spayed or neutered and come with a dog license.
