AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The unemployment rate in Amarillo has dipped to one of the lowest in the state - 5 percent.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the unemployment rate in Amarillo for August was listed at 5 percent. That is down half a percent from 5.5 percent in July.
In August 2011, the unemployment rate for Amarillo was listed at 5.7 percent.
Amarillo's rate is considerably lower than the state average at 7.1 percent.
Midland has the lowest jobless rate at 3.8 percent.
According to Chairman Andres Alcantar, the annual growth rate for Texas has been positive for 28 consecutive months.
