AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Office of Emergency Management and other emergency related organizations had an event for the public at Sam's Club, 2201 Ross-Osage Drive.

"They do a lot of business disaster planning with us. So this offered a unique way to have people come out and as they do their shopping, come by and get some disaster preparedness info."

The event is part of the National Disaster Preparedness Month, to help everyone prepare for an emergencies and disasters.

The city of Amarillo Emergency Management gave residents a chance to learn about being ready when disasters happen.

The event also included the Amarillo/Potter/Randall Office of Emergency Management, National Weather Service, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Amarillo Medical Service and others.

There were plenty of information pamphlets and help on what residents need to know for emergencies and other disasters. There was a raffle for a chance to win a 72-hour disaster kit or a special weather radio.

The city will be testing several warning systems, beginning Friday at 11:30 a.m., including email blasts, Nixels, cable system warnings and outdoor sirens.
