AMARILLO, TEXAS -- More than 10,000 people have joined the Facebook page honoring the life of PFC Genaro Bedoy.

Bedoy was killed earlier this month while serving his country in Afghanistan. According to the Department of Defense, Bedoy was injured with small arms fire.

His funeral is set for Saturday morning and now the community is planning to show its support for their hometown hero.

Residents who wish to honor PFC Bedoy's life can gather at McDonald Lake at 45th and Coulter on Saturday at 9 a.m.

"The community with meet at the park/small lake that is at the corner of the intersection at 45th and Coulter," the Facebook page said. "People who want to attend must park legally around the park and walk over (there is a Wal-mart, restaurants, a library and businesses around)."

According to the page, the display intends to be a sign of the community sticking behind Bedoy's family and thanking him for his service.

More information on the event can be found here.
