CLAYTON, N.M. (AP) - An inmate serving a 6-year sentence at the state prison near Clayton has died in what officials believe is a suicide.

State Corrections officials say in a news release that 41-year-old Ray Stallings was found outside his cell at the Northeast New Mexico Detention Facility at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Guards began life-saving measures and he was taken to Union County General Hospital, then flown to Albuquerque. He died just before noon.

The Farmington Daily Times says Stallings was from Bloomfield and was convicted last September for a 2009 incident where he lit his nephew on fire. The nephew had burns covering 28 percent of his body.
