CLOVIS, N.M. -- The Curry County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a person driving a vehicle and impersonating a police officer.

The Sheriff's Office said it is investigating several complaints that it received about the officer impersonations.

Authorities said the individual is described as a white male with a very short haircut. He is also described as clean shaven with a pointy nose and anywhere between his 20s and 30s in age.

He was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt and khaki utility type pants. He, according to police, had a holstered firearm and handcuffs on his belt.

The suspect was driving what was described as a black Dodge Charger or a similar-type vehicle, police said. The vehicle has red and blue emergency lights that flash from the front and rear of the vehicle, police said. It is believed the lights are not visible unless activated.

All of the encounters with the suspect were on NM State Road 209, north of Clovis and south of Broadview during the evening and afternoon hours, police said.

Motorists told police the vehicle was traveling behind them with flashing lights. There was was only one incident where the suspect had contact with the motorists. In the other incidents, police said the suspect passed the motorists and continued on.

Residents are reminded that if they are stopped by something other than a fully marked and recognized emergency vehicle to call 911 to verify it is a law enforcement office.

Any information on this incident can be reported to the Curry County Sheriff's Office at (575) 769-2335.
