AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Gas prices in Amarillo have fallen nearly a dime in the last week, according to AAA Texas' weekly gas survey.
The average price of unleaded gasoline in Amarillo was listed at $3.34 per gallon. At the same time last week, AAA Texas reported it being at $3.43 per gallon when it fell 15 cents.
Compared to the same time last year, motorists are paying just one cent more per gallon now. The average price then was $3.33 per gallon.
One month ago, prices were up sharply at $3.61 per gallon, AAA Texas reported.
The average price for gas in Texas was listed at $3.30 per gallon. The most expensive gas in Texas was in El Paso where it is $3.43 per gallon. The cheapest was in Beaumont at $3.23.
Several Panhandle cities reported even lower prices, like Dumas at $3.15 per gallon.
According to analysts, the drop was due in part to decreasing demand because of Superstorm Sandy. The demand for gas was about 25 percent lower than the normal, AAA Texas said.
