AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The United Way of Amarillo and Canyon was successful in raising more than $6 million as part of its annual campaign.

The money raised, according to the United Way of Amarillo and Canyon's Vice President of Community Impact, will go toward funding health, education and low-income programs.

"We are really excited about really setting a goal that's never been met before of $6 million," Mize said. " We are really excited about the anticipation of what that will mean for how we are able to utilize that throughout our communities."

About 1,000 people gathered at the Amarillo Civic Center on Wednesday afternoon when the announcement was made. A 2013 Scion FR-S was given away from Toot'n Totum.

The United Way's campaign was completed by its thousands of volunteers, including dozens of loaned executives from across the community.

"You just don't know how much we are so thankful at United Way of Amarillo and Canyon to the citizens of Amarillo and Canyon for their generous hearts," Mize said.
