AMARILLO, TEXAS -- High Plains Food Bank's 18th Annual "Together We Can Holiday Food Drive" has high hopes for this year's donation season.

Attempting to raise 500,000 meals this week by collecting 120,000 pounds of food and $90,000 in funding, the food bank anticipates to distribute over 7 million pounds of food to local agencies.

Supporting over 170 non-profit agencies, churches, soup kitchens, and after-school programs, all donations to the High Plains Food Bank will go directly to the homes of those in need.

The food bank has seen an increase in people seeking assistance in a struggling economy. Children throughout the Panhandle need special attention, when 1 in 4 do not know where their next meal will come from.

The food drive will go from December 3-8, 2012 in the parking lot of the Market Street United on 2530 S. Georgia Street.
