AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The populations nursing class from West Texas A&M University kicked off the season of giving today by hosting their health clinic for the homeless residents of Amarillo.
Offering toothpaste, water, gloves, and crackers, students gave medical advice and distributed winter wear to those in need. Different stations set up throughout the Guyon Saunders Resource Center gave the homeless of Amarillo the opportunity to ask questions about their health, as well as benefit from resources the nursing students had to offer.
Populations nursing instructor and head of the Department of Nursing at WT, Dr. Helen Reyes, led 32 students in today's event. The small group of future nurses spent the entire semester gathering donations and organizing groups for their final project.
With an ever-growing homeless population in Amarillo, 200 residents without homes came out to the WT health clinic.
