AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The State of Texas and the Environmental Health Department are reinforcing food safety and preparation guidelines.
Churches, charities, and non-profit organizations across Amarillo, such as Kingswood United Methodist Church and Ronald McDonald House, have altered their services for the recently enforced regulations.
All organizations must have a kitchen that has been pre-approved by the department. They must prepare meals in inspected kitchen areas if they are to be served on location, and must also have adequate facilities for food distribution. All donations must pre-packaged, canned, or sealed to be considered for food programs.
Rosewood United Methodist Church and Ronald McDonald House say the increased awareness to food safety and cleanliness have not hindered their services, but have actually improved efforts to feed deserving Amarillo residents.
