AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Spending the holidays alone? Whether you're away from loved ones or don't have anything to do, here are a few things you can do on Christmas day.

Go and volunteer! Giving back is a great way to get out of the house and give back to the community. Salvation Army is hosting its holiday meal Christmas day from 12-2pm. Volunteers are encouraged to come and help serve those in need. However, the meal is not just for those looking to lend a helping hand, but also for those just looking for a meal.

"Yes it's for the homeless and for the hungry, but it's for those who are home alone as well," said Major Harvey Johnson. "We'll have a full holiday meal with all the trimmings so that people can enjoy not only the meal but the fellowship round the table."

Christmas day will also be a great day to go out and catch a movie. Movies like Les Miserables and Parental Guidance will be opening on Christmas day.

Lastly, we cannot forget about getting a nice holiday meal. Restaurants like Furr's Family Dining and The Big Texan will be open on Christmas. Furr's has made it a tradition to stay open on the holidays for those that need a place to go.

"A lot of people who don't have anywhere to go or any family to eat with, a lot of them come and eat with us" said Tracy Hendrix.

The Big Texan will also be prepared for big holiday crowds. Co-owner Danny Lee predicts around 2,300 guests throughout Christmas day. "We stay open for Christmas holidays because it's family out here."

No matter what your circumstance, there is no reason to be alone this holiday season. There are plenty of things throughout the city to help ensure that your Christmas is a merry one!
