ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The New Mexico teenager accused of fatally shooting his parents and three younger siblings told police he had been having homicidal and suicidal thoughts. According to a probable cause statement, a Bernalillo County sheriff's detective questioned 15-year-old Nehemiah Griego on Saturday about the killings at the family home southwest of Albuquerque.
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A potential clash looms between the Democratic-controlled Legislature and Republican Gov. Susana Martinez over the administration's plan to implement a state-run health insurance exchange. At issue is whether state law must be changed to create the exchange, which is envisioned as an online shopping center for the uninsured to buy health coverage.
FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Farmington may install a GPS tracking system on its transit system buses to both comply with a federal reporting mandate and provide with city with on-time information. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider whether to request a presentation from Atlanta-based RouteMatch Software. Assistant City Manager Bob Campbell says the software would enable the city to submit reports to the Federal Transit Administration's database.
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Former New Mexico legislator Fabian Chavez Jr., a Democrat who ran unsuccessfully for higher offices, died yesterday at a senior living center. He was 88. Chavez was elected to the House in 1950 and to the Senate in 1956, becoming majority floor leader five years later. He lost a close race for governor in 1968.
