AMARILLO, TEXAS -- At Tuesday's city commission meeting, Amarillo Police Chief Robert Taylor had good news for Amarillo residents.
Authorities reported a decrease in larceny theft of 9.5%, and an overall decrease in more serious crimes by almost 5%. These crimes include two categories: violent and property crimes.
APD also saw an 18.3% increase in robberies, or 4 reported cases over the course of 2012.
They say their figures show increased patrols throughout the city have helped cut into crime over a year period.
"Probably our biggest success has been over the last three years, using directly patrol, we've been able to bring the crime rate down about twenty percent, which is pretty good actually when you look at other cities and how much their crime rate is going down. That's actually pretty good," says Chief Taylor.
