AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Due to the blizzard warning that is in effect until 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, Amarillo Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is urging residents to avoid travel.

City crews are currently working to clear the driveways of OEM, fire stations, and the police department to ensure the city's emergency workers can respond to emergencies during the storm.

At the present time, city offices are closed with only weather essential personnel reporting for work. Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport is closed.

OEM is offering several tips to ensure you stay safe during this blizzard warning which include securing backup heat sources and bringing pets inside during the storm.

If you are stranded in your vehicle, OEM is asking motorists to drive cars to the side of the road if possible and stay in your vehicle until help arrives.

To see the complete list of tips visit OEM's website.
