Man arrested for aggravated assault

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Friday evening Amarillo Police and SWAT officers arrested Joseph Paul Jimenez, 27, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Jimenez was wanted by police after police responded to a shots fired call in the 7300 block of Fleming that led to the lock down of Mesa Verde Elementary.

Thursday morning, police spoke with the 26-year-old female victim who claimed that Jimenez shot at her from a vehicle. The bullet did not hit the victim and she told police that they had previously been in a relationship.

The victim has children who attend Mesa Verde Elementary which was locked down after the incident as a precautionary safety measure.

Jimenez was located in a residence in the 2600 block of south Jackson where he was arrested Friday evening.The weapon was also recovered from the residence. Jimenez was booked into the Potter County Correction Center.
