Four arrested after Amarillo sex offender compliance sweep

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Four registered sex offenders were arrested this week as police conducted a city-wide check of all sex offenders.

Amarillo Police said it coordinated the compliance sweep with various law enforcement agencies to ensure that registered sex offenders within the city are in compliance with state law.

According to police, Amarillo has 513 registered sex offenders living in the city.

The check started Friday and police said it was mostly complete early Friday.

Daniel Mark Smith, 28, Gary Lee Hart, 51, Juan Carlos Tijerina, 50, and Eric Michael Barber, 21, were all arrested on various charges during the sweep, police said.

In addition, police filed warrants on seven others for violations of the sex offender registration law.
