AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Fifth graders from Olsen Elementary got the opportunity to learn more about the judicial system by participating in mock trials.

The students filled a 47th District Courtroom for that. Judges Dan Schapp and Ana Estevez each presided over a case.

The students played the parts of attorneys, witnesses, jurors, and the bailiff. The jury even reached a verdict.

"I think it's an amazing hands on civic lesson that I wish more people had. I think it, if everybody knew this much about the juror system going in I think its so much more meaningful. I think it gives you such an appreciation for our system, which is not perfect, but really really good," said Dee Johnson, Attorney.

The students were also able to ask the judges questions, to learn more about the process.
