ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Democratic incumbent New Mexico Attorney General Gary King is backed by 48 percent of likely voters in a poll of the Nov. 2 race between King and Republican Matt Chandler.

Chandler, who is district attorney for eastern New Mexico's Curry and Roosevelt counties, was supported by 33 percent of those polled, while 19 percent were undecided.

The Albuquerque Journal reported the results of a poll of the attorney general's race Tuesday in a copyright story.

Albuquerque-based Research and Polling Inc. conducted the poll based on telephone interviews Aug. 23-27 with 942 randomly selected registered voters statewide. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
