AMARILLO, TEXAS -- According to Attorney General Greg Abbott, Danny Mullins was arrested Wednesday for failing to pay court-ordered child support.

In 1993, Mullins was ordered to pay $195 a month in child care for his daughter in Clarendon. "Mullins' arrest reflects a concerted, coordinated effort to hold a negligent father accountable for failing to pay court-ordered child support," Abbott said. Mullins owes $35,000 for his daughter's care, he was indicted by a Donley County grand jury in June of 2009. Mullins was arrested Oct, 1 in Nashville for felony criminal nonsupport, he is now back in the Texas Panhandle,  in the Donley County jail waiting to face the pending charges. Mullins faces up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

The Attorney General's Child Support Division is responsible for establishing and enforcing civil child support orders. Attorney General Abbott fosters cooperation between his office and local prosecutors, who have the ability to pursue criminal penalties against parents who have the financial capacity to care for their children, yet steadfastly refuse to make court-ordered child support payments.

I am raising my son by myself and my exwife has an order to pay only $160 a month but I only get two, maybe three payments a year. It is not only the deadbeat dads that do not make their payments, it is the deadbeat moms too! Without those payments we strugle to get by all of the time. She won't help take care of our son that she brought into the world but she shacked up with a criminal and had a second child. I am ordered to give custody over on weekends and I don't think it is fair that I have to do that or go to jail but she can not pay the child support and nothing happens to her. The AG office needs to pursue the women too.

this is crazy

You know i dislike reading stories like this because my daughters real father owes $42,000 in back child support and they just keep letting him go and everyone knows where he is and they still wont pick him up or anything

So we only have to wait...

It's only going to take the state 16 years to do anything about my kids' deadbeat dad. That's great. I'm sure that money will come in really handy when they have already graduated college! Let's see he's sitting at $15,000 in the hole. Guess it has to be closer to $35,000 for anyone to do anything about it. Thanks AG's office, for nothing!
