AMARILLO, TEXAS -- According to Attorney General Greg Abbott, Danny Mullins was arrested Wednesday for failing to pay court-ordered child support.
In 1993, Mullins was ordered to pay $195 a month in child care for his daughter in Clarendon. "Mullins' arrest reflects a concerted, coordinated effort to hold a negligent father accountable for failing to pay court-ordered child support," Abbott said. Mullins owes $35,000 for his daughter's care, he was indicted by a Donley County grand jury in June of 2009. Mullins was arrested Oct, 1 in Nashville for felony criminal nonsupport, he is now back in the Texas Panhandle, in the Donley County jail waiting to face the pending charges. Mullins faces up to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
The Attorney General's Child Support Division is responsible for establishing and enforcing civil child support orders. Attorney General Abbott fosters cooperation between his office and local prosecutors, who have the ability to pursue criminal penalties against parents who have the financial capacity to care for their children, yet steadfastly refuse to make court-ordered child support payments.
