AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Today, President Obama released a new overhaul proposal on health care, and with Thursday's televised summit meeting between the President and bi-partisan leaders of Congress; health care will surely be a dominate topic all week.

The President's proposal brought mixed responses along partisan lines. Republican members of Congress are skeptical and call this week's summit more of a public relations move than an actual compromise on the health care bills.

Obama's proposal is described by many as building on the Senate bill passed over Christmas, but with some changes to attract house Democrats.

We spoke to local members of Congress to get their take on the proposal and this week's summit.

"I've seen the outline of what the President has proposed today, and it's very much like what the House and Senate already have passed with cuts in Medicare, new taxes, government deciding how much your insurance will cost; therefore controlling the cost of every body's health insurance. Not the direction we want to go," said Rep. Mac Thornberry (R) Clarendon.

U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman applauded President Obama for advancing the issue by releasing his own proposal; while other Democrats in Congress say the summit meeting is a chance to bring both sides of the aisle together to develop a constructive plan.
