AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Fans of antique shopping hit the jackpot this weekend by visiting the Amarillo Civic Center for the Continental Antique Sale Show.
The Continental Shows were established 42 years ago. This year's show in Amarillo started Friday and ran until four o'clock Sunday afternoon. More than 20 vendors filled up the Heritage Room in the Civic Center where shoppers browsed through hundreds of antiques from old books, to paintings, jewelry and glassware. Some items so rich with history, the vendors said it's one of the reasons they keep coming back to do the show.
"I think for a lot of people it brings back a lot of memories of better years maybe in their lives that have gone by," said one antique vendor, Carole Bennett. "It's a great hobby, it's a good investment, fun time."
"There's something here for just about everyone and it really is history on display," said another vendor and owner of Acres Antiques, Norris Oerter.
Many of the vendors said this year's crowd was one of the best. But Oerter was quick to say they don't just come for their love of antiques, but also for their growing love for Amarillo.
"We're impressed with the City of Amarillo," he said, "and we intend to come back."
