AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Audree Rose Gomez is an 18 month old girl living with a serious heart condition.
In October of 2011, her parents learned that she was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy. This condition left Audree with the left side of her heart twice its normal size, and working less than 50%. This condition made it necessary for her to undergo open heart surgery.
Exactly one year later, her parents received a call that doctors had found a perfect match. Today, Audree is living with a new heart.
Doctors told her parents that before she could move home, they would have to completely renovate their home. Mark Gomez, Audree father, asked the Amarillo Elks Lodge #923 for their assistance.
The Elks Lodge began the Audree Project, a project to help the Gomez family raise funds and volunteers to help with the renovations. Elks Lodge members, as well as individual subcontractors and businesses, donated their time and materials to ensure that Audree come home to a clean slate.
The Elks Lodge is asking Panhandle residents for contributions of any kind. They are accepting monetary donations at the Herring National Bank. You can also make in person donations at the Amarillo Elks Lodge #923.
