AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The USAF Seven Summits Challenge group are making their final trip to Mount Everest in April of this year.

The group, which began in 2005, has made it their goal to climb the seven highest peaks in the world. They are composed of active Air Force members, and have climbed 6 of the 7 highest peaks in the world. The last in the series is Mt. Everest, which is also the highest.

The team has been trying to raise funds for the climb throughout the year. Group members pay for the entire cost of the trip out of their own pockets. If successful, the USAF Seven Summits Challenge group will be the first American military group to climb Mt. Everest, and the first military group in the world to climb all seven of the highest peaks.

The group also supports the charity, Special Operations Warrior Foundation. The charity provides college scholarships and  family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions.

They have raised thousands of dollars to support the charity, and donate all of the proceeds directly to children in need. The USAF Seven Summits Challenge group is not a official Air Force team, but a group of active military members in the Air Force. They are not funded by the USAF.
