More than 20,000 unemployed Texans will not have the next tier of Emergency Unemployment Compensation available to them after July 7.

The Texas Workforce Commission announced the state's unemployment rate has dropped enough to no longer be eligible for Tier III of the EUC.

"Our state's unemployment rate has remained below the national unemployment rate for 65 months, and May marked the 22nd consecutive month that Texas has added jobs," said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. "TWC and our 28 local workforce boards remain committed to providing quality services to job seekers and employers."

TWC will send letters to those who have exhausted their Unemployment Insurance benefits.

Those who are already within the Tier III EUC as of July 7 will not be affected. Those who have used up their EUC Tier II before July 8 may be eligible for the EUC Tier III benefits.

Claimants concerned about their status and eligibility may visit the TWC online at ui.texasworkforce.org or call the UI Tele-Center at 800-939-6631. Some Texans lose Unemployment Compensation.
