Hobbs man sentenced to 96 years in prison
LOVINGTON, N.M. (AP) -- A Hobbs man who fired gunshots at police at least three separate times during a 26-hour standoff - attracting officers from as far away as Albuquerque - was sentenced to 96 years in prison.
Pedro Armendariz, 31, told state District Judge Don Maddox on Monday he doesn't care how long he will be jailed.
Three Hobbs police officers were wounded by automatic weapons fire.
The standoff on Feb. 8, 2006, started when officers tried to serve a narcotics warrant. Hobbs police asked for help from other departments to increase their forces and equipment.
More than 80 officers responded, including two armored personnel carriers from Albuquerque and Midland, Texas. State police also sent a SWAT team.
