In efforts to create more green initiatives for Amarillo
It's a sign Amarillo is the new green. City hall was packed Tuesday for a discussion about recycling as hundreds of Amarillo's green team descended on city hall, all in the name of going green.
Team members presented ideas for expanding Amarillo's recycling program including curbside service, the creation of more green collar jobs, and the establishment of an ad-hoc committee focused on green initiatives.
The city responded with a brief history of success and many failures in Amarillo recycling programs in the past.
With the city's long range plan coming up next year, Tuesdays discussion was an attempt to include as many green intitiatives as possible in that plan.
"We are all here to let the city know that there are a lot of citizens who are concerned with recycling and different green issues and we hope to accomplish today by being here, to let the city know that we are united in this", said Cathy McClendon a green team member.
The green team is currently circulating a petition pushing these intitiatives, and the city commission plans to look at the suggestions made and revisit the issue again on January, 20th at 1:15 PM at city hall.
