ATLANTA, GA (AP) -- One worker is dead and 15 other people injured after a bridge under construction collapsed at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

Atlanta Fire Capt. Gregory Shinkle says the bridge collapsed just after 9 a.m. Friday. He says scaffolding being used to pour concrete for a new elevated bridge at the garden collapsed.

About a dozen ambulances were on the scene at the park in Midtown Atlanta. Shinkle said some injured workers were taken out of the accident area on backboards. He says a special team had been called in to shore up the walkway and scaffolding so that medical workers can reach victims.

Shinkle says most of the people injured had fractures but he had no details on their conditions.

Authorities have not released the name of the person killed.
