Scott Strawn was named the new Texas AgriLife Extension Service agricultural and natural resources agent for Potter County by the commissioner's court, according to Dr. Galen Chandler, AgriLife Extension regional program director for agriculture and natural resources.
"Scott will be a great addition to the Texas AgriLife Extension Service-Potter County staff," said Chandler. "He comes to the position with excellent AgriLife Extension experience and background and is a top performer with lots of innovative ideas to enhance the educational level of our clientele."
"I'm looking forward to getting to know the volunteers, the producers and Master Gardeners, and everyone that is a part of the program, and working with the staff there," Strawn said. "I've always viewed Amarillo and Potter County as a major hub in agriculture, and I'm excited to be a part of that and hope I can serve the citizens there."
Strawn will start his new position on Jan. 12. He is currently serving in the same position in Ochiltree County. He served in Denton and Briscoe counties before moving to Ochiltree County in 1994.
Strawn earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in agricutural education from Texas Tech University.
He was the assistant farm and ranch manager at his family's operation prior to college graduation, then spent a year as a graduate teaching assistant at Texas Tech before joining AgriLife Extension.
Strawn has served as president of the Texas County Agriculture Agents Association and been a chairman or member of various local, district and state committees.
He received the 2007 Texas Wheat Producers Award-Outstanding Agent, the 2006 Texas Corn Producers Award-Outstanding Agent; the 2005 National Agriculture County Agents Association and Texas County Agriculture Agents Association Distinguished Service Award; the 2003 Texas Cooperative Extension Superior Service-County Extension Agent award, plus numerous others.
