Yisrayl Hawkins, the self-proclaimed prophet of the House of Yahweh.
CLYDE, TX (AP) -- Firefighters in Clyde, Texas have contained a stubborn grass fire that burned through the House of Yahweh compound in West Texas. The fire began Monday afternoon (12-29) in a mobile home and spread until four mobile homes and two recreational vehicles burned. Dry grass fueled the flames.
Firefighters worked about five hours to douse the flames and were able to keep it from spreading to other nearby mobile homes. No one was injured.
The House of Yahweh compound covers some 44 acres near Abilene. The leader of the sect, Yisrayl Hawkins, is accused of having more than 20 wives and performing polygamist weddings. He is scheduled for trial next year.
