It's a popular social-networking website that has gotten mixed opinions as to whether teachers are crossing professional boundaries by chatting with their students online.
The issue made headlines last month after police in Houston found a former 42-year-old high school aide had sexual exchanges online with a former 16-year-old student.
So the question is should teachers become virtual 'friends' with their students?
Tammi Fritz, an English teacher at Randall High School says no.
"I do not communicate with current students on my facebook page. I just feel that for right now, that's not professionally appropriate." said Fritz.
And most school districts agree. Holly Shelton with the Amarillo Independent School District says there's not a policy for virtual engagements, but teachers shoudl use their best judgement.
"No matter what exciting new things we have in the future with technology we think the basic premises of the employee standards is basic ethics." Shelton said.
