MAGNOLIA, TX (AP) -- Authorities say five people died and two others were injured in Montgomery County after two cars collided, causing one to burst into flames.

State troopers say the Saturday wreck happened when a van crossing a highway collided with a car. They said the impact ejected two passengers from the van, leaving the driver and two others trapped inside the burning vehicle.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Angela Fountain said four died at the scene. Another died later at a hospital, and the other two were in critical but stable condition.

Fountain said four of the five family members in the van were from Oklahoma. She did not have ages, but said none of the victims were children.

DPS Trooper Winson Pham told The Courier of Conroe the accident was among the most horrific he has seen on the job.

Magnolia is about 45 miles northwest of Houston.
