Community not without protection during the process
SHAMROCK, TEXAS -- In a special Monday meeting of the Shamrock City Council, the Shamrock City Council voted unanimously to reject the officers of the Shamrock Volunteer Fire Department as submitted, and terminate and immediately reorganize the current volunteer fire department.
City Manager Johnny Rhodes met with members of the Shamrock VFD on Tuesday evening at their regular meeting and notified all members of the council's decision.
Rhodes appointed Randy Tallant and Bill Warren to put together a "skeleton crew" of firemen to serve until the reorganization of the fire department is complete.
Before the meeting with the VFD, Rhodes made arrangements with area fire departments, including Wheeler, McLean and Mobeetie, to provide assistance to the Shamrock VFD if needed until the restructuring is complete.
"At no given time was the community of Shamrock without fire protection. The council only has the best interest of our community in mind, and regretfully, sometimes changes have to be made," said Rhodes.
"I hate that it's all happened, but we are working diligently and quickly to make sure a full crew will be in place as soon as possible. Shamrock has never been, nor ever will be, without fire protection," said Tallant.
