ABILENE (AP) -- A life prison term has been ordered for a 28-year-old Abilene man over the 2007 killing of his girlfriend.

Louis Corona Barrientes last fall pleaded guilty to murder in the death of 35-year-old Cindy Jan Cortinaz Diaz. Her body was discovered in a vehicle belonging to the Barrientes family.

Investigators say the woman died of blunt force trauma.

Barrientes, who was sentenced Wednesday, will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years.

The Abilene Reporter-News reports a neuropsychologist who evaluated Barrientes testified about his paranoid schizophrenia, impulse control disorder and abusive childhood.

Prosecutors say Barrientes knew his conduct was wrong and he fled to his grandmother's home in Colorado City, where he was arrested a few days after the slaying.
