CLOVIS (AP) -- The first man recaptured after the escape of eight inmates from jail in Clovis last August also is the first to be convicted in the case.

District Attorney Matthew Chandler says 40-year-old Victor Apodaca was convicted of escape from jail.

He was sentenced to the maximum term of 18 months.

Apodaca was captured shortly after the August 24th escape.

Days after the escape from the Curry County jail, Apodaca was convicted in a separate case and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

State District Judge Stephen Quinn ordered the sentence for escape to be served after the 15 years in the other case.

One escapee, Edward Salas, remains at large.
