AMARILLO, TEXAS -- On the eve of the first African-American president's inauguration, ProNews 7 hit the streets to see how the public may be treating this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day differently.

The question was basically the same:  Do you believe this year's MLK day celebration has more significance or meaning to you on the eve of President-elect Obama's inauguration?

"The time couldn't have been more fitting, the fact that Dr. King's speech was held 40-plus years in correlation of the inauguration of our first African-American president," said Vanessa Miles, an Amarillo citizen. "This is really an exciting time. I just know change is here. The dream feels like it's been fulfilled, so I'm very excited."

"Inauguration day in America is a beautiful thing anytime we have a new president, but especially this year. This is a beautiful day for our families and our country," said Keith Villyard, an Amarillo resident.

"I would love to say that it's not --that we've always looked at this day as an amazing day in history and what as accomplished by Martin Luther King, but the reality is that what is happening tomorrow has totally changed and brought it up to where it should have been all these years," said Parie Villyard, another Amarillo citizen.

No matter who ProNews 7 reporter Billy Loftin spoke to. the answer was along the same lines.

People are honoring Dr. King and celebrating the President-elect's inauguration.

It's a truly historic event in American history that will be spoken about for generations to come.
