Netbooks: are they worth it?
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- For the longest time, when people talked about mobile computing, they meant a laptop or notebook computer. However, a new device has been making waves and even slowly replacing notebooks: NetBooks.
A Netbook is smaller than a laptop computer. The keyboard is usually 80-to-95 percent smaller and the screen is only 9-to-11 inches in size. You don't get a CD or DVD drive, because it won't fit. And to top it off, most netbooks aren't powerful enough to run Windows Vista. But then again, we hate Vista, anyway.
So, what's the appeal? The price.
Most netbooks run between $300 and $500. They're perfect for the busy executive who needs data on-the-go in a small package or for the student who might lose it and need another. I've even seen certain netbooks that are being sent to Third World countries as a way to connect them to the online community.
