Cutting horse world championship finals, this weekend in Amarillo
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) is holding its world championship finals this coming weekend in Amarillo. The impact economically for Amarillo is tremendous.
Three hundred sixty competitors from across the nation have trained and competed all year to get to this event.
"These are the top horses across the country so you're going to see the best of the best -- it's our super bowl," said Rebecca Brian, marketing manager for NCHA.
With so many competitors, the event makes a tremendous impact economically.
"They bring a huge economic impact to the cities we come (to). They'll be in restaurants, hotels, their day-to-day activities and the movie theatres. They're here to stay and they come and stay for two weeks at a time, so they definitely impact the cities in which they visit," said Brian.
The makeover the Amarillo National Center undergoes is already starting. The center was a hub of activity Monday as organizers prepared for the big event.
This weekend's finals feature the top 30 horses in 12 different cutting horse divisions.
The competition lasts from Feb. 12 to Feb. 21. The festivities begin each day at 8 a.m. and typically wind down around 7 or 8 p.m. at the latest.
Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend the events.
