ALBUQUERQUE (AP) -- Gov. Bill Richardson, Mayor Martin Chavez and Chihuahua Gov. Jose Reyes Baeza hopped aboard the inaugural AeroMexico flight from Albuquerque to Chihuahua City, Mexico.
Mexico City-based AeroMexico is now offering direct flights from Albuquerque to Chihuahua City and back. Until Monday's ceremony, New Mexico was the only border state without direct air service to Mexico.
The 52-seat Embraer jets will make the trip Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for $380 round trip plus tax, starting this week, according to the New Mexico Tourism Department.
Richardson said the flights will offer access to New Mexico for tourists and businessmen from Mexico's largest markets through connecting flights from Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City.
