New Texas parks and wildlife program, geared to educate families in camping outdoor
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Texas outdoor family, a new program started by Texas parks and wildlife, is geared to educate families or anyone interested in how to camp outdoors.
"It can be people who are a little bit experienced, but they want to know a better way perhaps, it's not just for the complete novice, anybody who wants to get more camping experience is invited to participate," said Bernice Blasingame, Palo Duro Canyon, education director and park interpreter.
The event is held at Palo Duro Canyon on the weekend of March 14th, and 15th. To register just check out the links provided below, or call the park for more information.
The program is $55 dollars per family or group of six. This gets you all the equipment you need, tent, lanterns, stove, etc... all you need is an open mind ready to learn.
"This will get them out, into the Canyon where they don't have to worry about anything, we teach them how, there are no dumb questions, and this gives them an opportunity to be outdoors in a state park," said Blasingame.
The kids will have nature hikes, and gps training just to name a couple activities during the weekend. The trip is overnight and park staff and volunteers will camp at the same sight just to ease any concerns or answer any questions.
"We're trying to get people in the outdoors particularly families, our children are loosing their touch with nature and we want them outside, whenever our generation is gone we want another generation to become stewards of our state parks," said Blasingame.
