IRVING, Texas (AP) — The current head of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services says an immigration reform plan would pose a challenge for the agency.
Acting Deputy Director Michael Aytes made the comments Wednesday during a visit to the Dallas suburb of Irving for the opening of a new sprawling USCIS district office.
The opening of such facilities is among the improvements the agency can make to better prepare for the possibility of additional workload if lawmakers approve an immigration reform plan.
USCIS staffers are still trying to work through a backlog of applications of people seeking citizenship, green cards and other services.
