AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Since October, gun shops have experienced a heavy increase in sales of ammunition because of a rumor that the sales tax on it could be going up.

Gun owners fear now that President Obama is in office, he'll increase that tax, and some speculate it could be a jump of 500 percent, which could really hurt the average gun owner.

One shop owner ProNews 7 talked with is amazed by how much ammunition he has to order just to keep from selling out.

"We get it in two to three times a week and usually by the weekend we're running low. We've had to place another order. The problem that we face is that our distributers are running out," said Bill Howell, owner of Pro Shooter's Gun and Knife.

Howell said even though it's just a rumor right now, it's never too early for gun owners to start letting their lawmakers know how they feel about raising that tax.
