PEARLAND, TEXAS (AP) -- Police in the Houston suburb of Pearland have captured an alleged would-be car thief after a daylong search that closed an elementary school.

A police bloodhound led officers to a shed behind a Pearland home where they say they found the man hiding just before 10 p.m. Monday. His identity hasn't been released.

That came after a 12-hour manhunt that began with what police say was a failed carjacking attempt near Pearland's Magnolia Elementary School.

Police had suspended the search at one point Monday afternoon after finding nobody. But the search resumed after an officer reported spotting the suspect just after 5 p.m.

No injuries were reported in the alleged carjacking attempt.

Pearland is 16 miles south of Houston.
