NWS says early spring storm system could spawn severe weather
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The work week could get off to a rocky start across Oklahoma.
The National Weather Service said an early spring storm system could spawn a wave of severe weather in the Plains today.
Most of Oklahoma and the central Plains as well as part of north-central Texas are included in an area at slight risk for severe storms. A swath of central Oklahoma north into central Kansas is in a moderate risk area.
Hail and damaging winds are expected to be the main threats, but forecasters say tornadoes can't be ruled out.
Storms are expected to be most numerous in the late afternoon and evening hours and continue through the overnight period. Temperatures are expected to reach the 70s, helping to fuel the storms.
Yesterday, skies were mainly cloudy statewide. Highs ranged from 72 degrees in Gage to 79 degrees in Bartlesville, McAlester, Muskogee and Stillwater. The high in Guthrie, Oklahoma City and Tulsa was 78 degrees.
Lows tonight are expected to range from the 30s in the Oklahoma Panhandle to the low 60s in southeast Oklahoma.
