Commissioners approve grant application for two more officers
CANYON, TEXAS -- Before President Obama's stimulus, the city of Canyon was planning on hiring two police officers over the period of 3 years.
Now a grant has become available that would allow for two officers to be hired as soon as October.
Canyon City Commissioners approved the application of the grant during a meeting on Monday.
Here's how it breaks down: the grant allows for officers to be hired and retained for four years. The nation will pay for the first three years, and the City is responsible for the last.
City Manager Randy Criswell said, "This just puts us a couple of years ahead in advancing toward our goal of getting more officers, and then the beauty of it is: that it's free money for three years."
If Canyon is approved for the grant, the officers could be hired as soon as October.
