Bill proposed to legislators would allow liquor sales on Sunday in Texas
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Quite a debate is brewing in the state of Texas, should liquor packaging stores have the option to be open on Sundays.
One organization, the Distilled Spirits Council a national trade association believes the revenue could reach the hundred million dollar mark in Texas if the bill passes.
Not every one is toasting the idea, M & R Liquor an Amarillo packaging store believes the opposite.
"It wouldn't increase our sales, it's just more people would take up Friday, Saturday and Sunday to shop, we would probably lose sales on Saturday and Monday, and it would increase what we have to pay out on payroll, overhead, you know, so it would really not be beneficial," said Dianna Steele, Manager of M & R Liquor.
Currently 36 states across the U.S. allow Sunday liquor sales, 14 of them made the change after 2002.
If the bill passes it would allow Texas liquor stores the opportunity to sale on Sundays for the first time since prohibition.
