AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo Police were called to the Greyhound Bus Lines facility Wednesday evening on a report of a suspicious package on a bus.
The brick shaped package wrapped in electrical tape was noticed in an open bag under a seat while the bus was being refueled and cleaned to continue on a scheduled route.
According to police, the bus returned and passengers were allowed to get back on board. Officers then got back on the bus and found the passenger connected to the bag, but found the package was no longer in the bag. Police found the suspicious package wedged between the seat and the wall of the bus, along with a second similar package.
Police arrested Gustavo Cabada Gutierrez, 48 of Santa Ana, California for possession of a controlled substance over 4 grams but under 200 grams.
He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.
A preliminary check of the seized packages shows a total weight of 271 grams (just under 10 ounces) of what investigators believe to be methamphetamine.
Narcotics investigators said the street value might be as high as $33,000.
