Amarillo traffic stop yields 263 lbs. of marijuana

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Texas Department of Public Safety troopers in Potter County near Amarillo found more than 250 lbs. of marijuana on Sunday during a routine traffic stop.

Troopers stopped a 2009 Chevrolet on I-40 for a traffic violation, and observed criminal activity from the driver, Heather A. Thomas, 47, of Fairhaven, Massachusetts.

Troopers requested consent to search the vehicle and were denied consent.

A DPS K-9 unit was called to the scene and conducted a free air sniff.

The K-9 alerted to the vehicle indicating the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 263 lbs of marijuana concealed in the trunk of the vehicle.

The marijuana was valued at $85,475.

Thomas was placed under arrest and booked into the Potter County Jail for possession of marijuana.
